In one weekend I doubled the size of a bungalow by adding a second story. The family loved the location of the home but needed more space. They requested a complete change in look – as if adding another story weren’t enough! So the makeover was inspired by a 1920s farmhouse design. To make it look old, yet stylish, I handmade traditional wide plank floors; hand-crafted solid wood doors; and board and batten wainscoting; and gave the exterior a craftsman look by making a new porch and adding cedar shingles. The highlights of this project are the planning and engineering that went into executing the hoisting of the second story; the hand-crafted floors, doors, and hardware; and the custom features in each child’s bedroom.
