This couple wanted their new space to be chic, energy efficient, and comfortable. They had a special interest in natural products and flow. I did my best to reflect their tastes in every aspect of design and construction. The arch featured wherever possible, such as doorways and wood trim. Their favorite products – glass, wood, stone, copper and marble – tastefully adorned their highly functional, yet sophisticated home.
How do you enlarge a house by 1300 square feet? Just add water. If only it were that easy! In August we dug the hole and in December the family hosted friends and family in their bigger better home. The family of 6 wanted more space and a refresh, but didn't want to give up their neighborhood. So in 5 months I gave them what they asked for, and ensured no one would ever know we'd "added on." Everything in the house looks as though it were made at the same time. There is flow and consistency throughout.
After Anne’s husband died she conceded that it was time to move into town. She soon became enthused about the renovation because she had input on the design. She requested that her home have plenty of light; be open yet cozy; and mirror her love of antiques and family.
Satisfying Anne’s desire for that “home on the range” feeling was enjoyable. Who doesn’t love warm wood finishes in an open concept space? We turned antiques into vanities; brought in river rock for the fireplace; enlarged all the windows; built a cedar arbor and deck; made a built-in china cabinet, barn-style doors, solid wood chopping block, and custom turned island posts; and made a vaulted ceiling where there’d been a flat one.
Adjusting to life without her husband and her farm was challenging. Having a new home that suited her tastes and captured her memories made the transition easier, and gave her a comfortable place to start making new memories with her friends and family.
Brand New Basement
An undeveloped basement was a blank canvas that soon became one of the sexiest projects we’ve ever done. This family of four loved to entertain, watch movies, and house their extensive wine collection. The owner was very particular (almost as particular as I am!) and wanted his love of technology to be front and centre in every aspect of the project.
This renovation highlights specialty lighting, wiring, controls, custom woodwork, hidden doors, and imported wall treatment.
Several months later, they and their guests had seamless access to a remote-controlled entertainment centre.
